About the Role
The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) seeks a City Med Spec, L4 (part-time) to provide health services in a TB Clinic, assisting those who may be infected with or exposed to tuberculosis. This role involves diagnosing, treating, and monitoring patients, and collaborating with case management staff and other healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Performing histories and physicals, evaluating laboratory and other data to determine tuberculosis treatment needs.
- Supervising or formulating treatments for tuberculosis, including complex regimens for drug-resistant cases.
- Monitoring patient compliance during treatment.
- Implementing patient care protocols for latent or active TB infection.
- Overseeing the work of other medical specialists, healthcare providers, and staff in tuberculosis evaluation and treatment.
- Collaborating with case management staff on patient cases and contact investigations.
- Participating in contact investigations and evaluating clients for disease or preventative therapy.
- Consulting with community doctors and healthcare providers on tuberculosis.
- Attending relevant conferences, symposiums, seminars, and meetings.
- Writing standard and special reports as assigned.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
- Valid Board Certification by the appropriate American Specialty Board OR current approved application for the certifying examination.
- For Assignment Level II: One year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area.
- For Assignment Level III: Master's degree in Public Health or equivalent, with graduate credits in epidemiology and biostatistics (Epidemic Intelligence Service program may substitute). At least two years of satisfactory post-Master's experience in epidemiology. Specialty Board Certification or eligibility may substitute for one year of experience.
- For Assignment Level IV: Completion of an approved residency program in internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, or related specialty. Valid board certification or eligibility by the appropriate American Subspecialty Board in Infectious Disease, Pulmonary Medicine, or related subspecialty. Completion of an approved fellowship program in infectious diseases, pulmonary medicine, or related subspecialty, with two years of experience.
