About the Role

Champion the education of children in care, helping them build brighter futures. As a Virtual School Advisory Teacher, you’ll be using your teaching experience to make a lasting difference. You’ll work directly with children in care, alongside schools, carers and social workers, to make sure each young person gets the support they need to thrive in education – wherever they’re placed.

Responsibilities

Take responsibility for a group of children in care, acting as their advocate in all things education.
Review Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
Monitor progress.
Ensure pupil premium funding is used effectively.
Travel to meet young people wherever they are placed, providing direct support through mentoring, tuition and observation.
Build close working relationships with Designated Teachers and school leaders.
Offer guidance and challenge practice where needed.
Track data carefully to identify areas where extra support is needed.
Help design interventions that work.
Play a role in training school staff, foster carers and social workers.

Requirements

Qualified teacher with experience in mainstream education, covering at least two key stages.
Strong understanding of the legislation around children in care and its impact on education.
Confident working with a wide range of people, including young people, carers, school staff, and social workers.
Ability to build trust quickly.
Organised, responsive, and able to manage time well with a busy and varied caseload.
Care deeply about helping children in care succeed, not just academically, but in finding stability, confidence and a belief in their own potential.
Enhanced DBS Check - Adults and Children (including barred list).
