About the Role
As a Senior Electrical Engineer within the growing Nuclear Infrastructure team at Black & Veatch, you will provide technical expertise across the design and delivery of electrical systems supporting major nuclear infrastructure projects. This role focuses on the engineering and design of electrical infrastructure within nuclear environments, enabling clients to modernise, upgrade and develop important UK infrastructure assets.
Responsibilities
- Lead or support the delivery of electrical design packages for nuclear infrastructure projects.
- Develop and review single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Develop and review protection and control schematics.
- Develop and review motor control and equipment wiring diagrams.
- Develop and review cable schedules and cable sizing calculations.
- Develop and review electrical equipment layouts and interconnection drawings.
- Perform engineering calculations including load flow studies.
- Perform engineering calculations including short circuit analysis.
- Perform engineering calculations including motor starting studies.
- Perform engineering calculations including arc flash assessments.
- Perform engineering calculations including battery and charger sizing.
- Perform engineering calculations including protection coordination studies.
- Prepare technical specifications, scope documents and bills of materials for procurement and construction.
- Undertake site surveys and assessments to understand existing infrastructure and identify engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers and clients.
- Support project planning, budget development and programme delivery.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior engineers.
- Ensure compliance with UK regulatory requirements, client standards and engineering best practice.
Requirements
- Must have the legal right to work within the UK.
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Typically 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of UK engineering standards, regulations and industry best practices.
- Experience delivering electrical design and engineering projects within regulated industries.
- Experience of power distribution systems and infrastructure design.
- Familiarity with engineering software.
- Experience using discipline related software and other engineering design tools.
- Previous experience working on nuclear, power, industrial, defence or critical infrastructure projects.
