About the Role

Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School is seeking a certified, or on the pathway to certification, and experienced History teacher (Global and/or US History) to provide instruction to high school students. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong planning, instructional skills, effective classroom management, and a commitment to professional development. Teachers collaborate with colleagues within and across departments.

Responsibilities

Exhibit understanding of and skills relevant to the subject area(s) taught.
Make topics and activities meaningful and relevant to each student.
Integrate technology resources compatible with students’ needs and abilities.
Develop unit and lesson plans aligned to standards and regents exams.
Plan with specialists to differentiate instruction for all students.
Link present content/skills with past and future learning experiences.
Use various instructional strategies to differentiate learning.
Employ effective questioning strategies to engage students.
Monitor students’ understanding and adjust teaching as needed.
Maximize student learning by providing opportunities for active participation.
Explain content and demonstrate skills in various ways to meet student needs.
Hold each learner individually responsible for learning.
Use assessment results to monitor and modify instruction.
Effectively use teacher-made and standardized tests to measure student performance.
Utilize oral, non-verbal, and written forms of student assessment.
Organize, maintain, and use records of student progress for instructional decisions.
Continuously monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback.
Demonstrate competence in grading and reporting student achievement.
Use precise language and acceptable oral and written communication.
Articulate clear learning goals and instructional procedures to students.
Model caring, fairness, courtesy, respect, and active listening.
Model concern for students’ emotional and physical well-being.
Seek and maintain positive interactions with students in all school settings.
Seek information about student interests and opinions.
Enforce school student behavior policies and engage students in the classroom community.
Communicate clear expectations about behavior to students and parents.
Actively monitor student behavior and provide constructive feedback.
Create a physical setting and establish routines that promote learning and minimize disruption.
Manage transitions efficiently and constructively.
Manage emergency situations in school settings.
Work cooperatively with co-teachers and colleagues for student benefit.
Maintain a professional appearance according to the school’s dress code.
Interact with colleagues and students ethically and professionally.
Carry out duties in accordance with established policies, practices, and regulations.
Select appropriate channels for resolving concerns and maintain confidentiality.
Complete classroom and school assignments in a timely manner.
Participate in professional growth activities.
Explore and apply knowledge of new or improved instructional methods.

Initiate timely communication with parents regarding student progress or problems.

Requirements

At least 2 years prior teaching experience in high school.
Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school settings.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience with educational technology.

Skills

Planning, organizing, developing and conducting a comprehensive teaching and instruction program.
Providing appropriate and effective learning experiences for pupils from a wide range of achievement levels.
Demonstrating good judgment and problem-solving skills.
Responding appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting.
Knowledge or ability to use SIS (student information systems) or online learning platforms (PowerSchool, Google Classroom, etc.).
