About the Role
The Director, R&D Procurement - Global will manage Haleon's Global R&D spend, including Pre-clinical, Clinical, Lab, and Outsourced Services. This role reports into Global Directs & Innovation Procurement and interacts with senior stakeholders across R&D, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Finance, overseeing a spend of over £80m.
Responsibilities
- Develops strategic end-to-end sourcing strategies for a defined portfolio
- Plans, leads, and oversees negotiations
- Builds and delivers a Procurement strategy across the portfolio and cross-BU
- Creates and implements Procurement initiatives/strategies which improve quality of service and supply, innovation pipeline and produce significant cost savings across business units or supply networks
- Knows and utilises complex business processes in all Haleon supplier transactions, including risk, regulatory and compliance requirements
- Leads, manages, and develops a team of procurement managers
- Develop a comprehensive procurement strategy for R&D outsourced services and lab items that ensures high-quality services and protects Haleon’s competitive position
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to deploy strategies globally, facilitated by robust implementation and transition plans
- Generate value across quality, delivery, cost and innovation, contributing significantly to the organisation’s goals and objectives
- Manage a spend of £80m+ by creating comprehensive global sourcing strategies, operating with a truly global and strategic mindset
- Build strategic relationships with senior Haleon stakeholders to understand business requirements, identify value opportunities and position Procurement’s value proposition
- Create compelling business cases for change and secure approval from senior stakeholders across Haleon Commercial, Supply Chain and other relevant functions
- Lead contract planning, negotiation, execution and maintenance, working with Legal to take agreements from draft to completion
- Deliver global benefits identified in strategies through effective strategy execution, aligned to assurance of supply (risk management), compliance, quality, service, cost, simplification and innovation
- Engage stakeholders, Finance and other relevant functions in the sourcing strategy delivery and execution
- Build senior-level supplier relationships and ensure business unit considerations are reflected in supplier management
- Lead and direct category & innovation teams within scope of responsibility
- Build the organisational capabilities needed to implement Haleon’s strategy now and in the future
- Ensure appropriate communication strategy is in place and in use within the relevant Procurement and business customer networks
Requirements
- Significant procurement experience, including leading teams
- Subject matter expertise in Clinical Studies sourcing and R&D outsourced services
- Strong understanding of relevant regulatory environments and supplier markets
- Proven ability to deliver multi-year strategies that create competitive commercial advantage
- Experience managing large projects and end-to-end service or operations delivery
- Build trusted relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Lead complex negotiations and manage contract planning, execution, interpretation and maintenance
- Apply strong project and change management skills to deliver outcomes at pace
- Use sourcing tools, market insight and category trends to shape effective strategies
- Bring strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills
