About the Role

We are looking for a Consumer Industries reporter to cover makers of food and drinks, household and personal care products, and the UK's farming industry. This role offers opportunities to write for every part of the FT, breaking stories on major companies and exploring industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Generating ideas and breaking news
  • Seeking out a wide range of contacts in and around the industry to inform stories and generate scoops
  • Writing original longer-form pieces for the Companies section and other parts of the FT
  • Liaising effectively with the news desks and overseas bureaux
  • Working closely and proactively with the data, visuals and videos teams to produce ambitious and eye-catching projects
  • Weekend shifts are required as part of the newsroom rota
  • Working with, and providing cover for, reporters on leisure and retail beats

Requirements

  • Original reporting, great writing and intelligent commentary lie at the heart of FT journalism.
  • FT editorial staff do not by default use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to write articles or create other reader-facing content.
  • Applicants to the FT newsroom should refrain from using AI in their test submissions.
  • Written materials should be a genuine reflection of their own knowledge, skills and experiences.
  • Candidates should only employ AI as a tool to help with research and interview readiness for a role.
  • The use of AI throughout the application process is monitored to ensure a fair and transparent hiring process for all.
