About the Role
This role involves inspecting, surveying, and assessing Council-owned trees, accurately recording findings in the Confirm Arboriculture system using mobile technology. The postholder will assess tree condition, identify defects and risks, and recommend management actions to ensure the safety, health, and sustainability of the Council's tree stock. The role requires sound professional judgment, ownership of decisions, and clear communication with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive inspections and surveys of Council-owned trees.
- Assess tree condition, structural integrity, and associated risks according to industry standards.
- Identify and record tree defects, pests, diseases, disorders, and other factors affecting tree health.
- Accurately collect, record, and maintain tree survey data using Confirm Arboriculture and tablet technology.
- Make professional recommendations for tree maintenance, pruning, removal, replacement, and other arboricultural works.
- Prioritize works based on risk assessments and service requirements.
- Assist with the management of the Council's tree asset database and ensure data integrity.
- Undertake site inspections in response to inquiries, complaints, insurance claims, emergencies, and service requests.
- Support the investigation of tree-related incidents and provide technical advice.
- Monitor completed tree works to ensure they meet required standards and specifications.
- Liaise with residents, contractors, elected members, and other stakeholders on tree management matters.
- Provide clear and professional explanations for decisions related to tree management and recommended works.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety, environmental regulations, and arboricultural best practices.
- Contribute to the protection and enhancement of the Council’s tree stock and wider environmental objectives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of arboricultural practices, legislation, pests, diseases, and industry developments.
Requirements
- A recognized Arboricultural qualification relevant to the duties of the role.
- Minimum of three years' experience working within the Arboricultural industry.
- Good working knowledge of tree biology, tree identification, arboricultural practices, pests, diseases, and disorders affecting trees.
- Good working knowledge of tree risk assessment, tree work operations and their impact on tree health, and ecology and environmental considerations.
- Experience carrying out tree inspections and condition surveys.
- Ability to assess tree-related risks and make sound professional recommendations.
- Experience using asset management systems, databases, or mobile inspection technology.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical decisions clearly and professionally.
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
- Good IT skills, including use of tablets and digital reporting systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience using Confirm Arboriculture (Desirable).
- Professional membership of the Arboricultural Association, Institute of Chartered Foresters, or similar professional body (Desirable).
- Tree Inspection qualification such as LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) (Desirable).
- Experience working within a Local Authority environment (Desirable).
- Knowledge of Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), Conservation Areas, and relevant tree legislation (Desirable).
