About the Role
Welocalize is seeking a native-level Japanese speaker for a confidential, large-scale AI and consumer technology program. This hands-on, on-site role involves evaluating a pre-release AI model and testing its performance on a smartphone and smart glass. Your judgment will shape the technology before its public release.
Responsibilities
- Review pre-release AI model output in Japanese for accuracy, naturalness, appropriateness, and overall quality, including fact-checking against source material.
- Test the Japanese user experience against the English version, confirming feature parity and user journey completion.
- Verify correct handling of non-Latin script, diacritics, right-to-left text, and mixed-language input.
- Identify and report display issues such as text cutoff, overflow, or rendering problems.
- Report localization errors including incorrect dates, numbers, currencies, units, or untranslated strings.
- Clearly document issues with steps to reproduce, device, OS, locale, build ID, and supporting evidence.
- Retest issues after fixes are implemented to confirm resolution.
- Provide feedback on navigation, usability, and language-specific nuances from a native speaker's perspective.
- Work on-site in a private, secure area of the Welocalize office.
- Support other linguistic projects as needed.
Requirements
- Native-level or fully bilingual Japanese proficiency, both written and spoken, with a current understanding of everyday and technical language usage.
- Proficiency with smartphones and laptops, comfortable switching between iOS and Android.
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to make fair, objective quality assessments.
- Ability to work independently, follow detailed test scripts and guidelines, and clearly explain issues in English.
- Previous experience in software or app testing, localization QA, or linguistic evaluation is a strong plus but not essential.
