About the Role

Workato is seeking a PostgreSQL DBA to manage and optimize our PostgreSQL database operations on Amazon Aurora. This role involves ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our multi-terabyte database fleet, supporting application teams, and driving automation for database management tasks.

Responsibilities

Own day-to-day PostgreSQL operations across all production data centers, including index creation, query-plan analysis, schema reviews, and data migrations.
Partner with application teams on data-model decisions and provide data-driven feedback on scalability.
Operate and tune Aurora PostgreSQL, including parameter groups, replicas, failover behavior, and capacity planning.
Run and evolve the PgBouncer connection-pooling layer.
Develop automation for repeatable tasks such as upgrades, switchovers, and provisioning using Terraform and Ansible.
Lead incident response and root cause analysis for database-related issues, and implement follow-up actions.
Maintain and improve database observability using tools like postgres_exporter and VictoriaMetrics.
Participate in a duty rotation to handle developer requests, with protected focus time off-duty.

Requirements

5+ years of hands-on operational PostgreSQL experience in a DBA or database reliability role.
Strong command of query plans, indexing strategy, and performance tuning on multi-TB tables.
Production experience with managed PostgreSQL (Aurora or RDS) and understanding of its constraints.
Working proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
Comfortable operating in a Linux environment.
Experience with connection pooling (PgBouncer or similar) in production.
Practical experience with logical replication, major-version upgrades, and low-downtime migration techniques.
Scripting ability (Bash, Python, or GO) and an automation-first mindset.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
Strong incident management and root cause analysis skills.
