About the Role
Join a small team designing and building platforms and systems to support vital functions at Our Future Health, including participant-facing websites and the import/processing of health and genetic datasets. We seek candidates passionate about recommending modern technologies and practices for building a public cloud-based platform from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Create cloud platforms to support Our Future Health as the organization scales.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to define platform requirements.
- Employ an iterative approach to platform development, starting simple and increasing complexity.
- Assist in defining development processes for a new, growing team.
- Take ownership of solutions from conception through deployment and beyond.
- Participate in on-call rotas as needed.
- Integrate and deploy third-party tools for other teams.
- Develop innovative solutions for complex technical challenges involving distributed systems, scale, and security.
- Implement best practices for availability, scalability, operational excellence, and efficiency.
Requirements
- High proficiency in cloud DevOps/platform engineering and large-scale live services (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Hands-on experience developing infrastructure-as-code with tools like Terraform, OpenTofu, Terragrunt, or Pulumi, following GitOps practices.
- Strong experience coding and automating tasks in a high-level language, preferably Python.
- Hands-on experience with software engineering best practices including unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, and debugging/troubleshooting.
- Experience building/deploying tools for data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Proficiency with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
- Experience deploying open-source technologies (Python, Node.JS, Ruby, Postgres) and related CI/CD pipelines.
- Good understanding of cloud security best practices and compliance.
- Experience designing, supporting, and troubleshooting production systems at scale.
- Good understanding of technology stacks from networks to applications.
- Experience working in an agile methodology, including code reviews and pairing.
- Experience in a commercial regulated domain (clinical, wearables, consumer apps, genomics, pharma, etc.) is a bonus.
