About the Role
The Software Engineer builds and maintains APIs, workflows, integrations, and tooling for underwriting and policy administration. Embedded in an engineering team, they own the full lifecycle of their work, including implementation, testing, and operational support, while learning the insurance domain and growing towards independent delivery. They are accountable for delivering assigned work with quality.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain APIs, workflows, integrations, and tooling supporting underwriting and policy administration systems.
- Write modular, maintainable code, proactively asking for help when needed.
- Implement operational workflows in collaboration with engineering leads and underwriting/business stakeholders.
- Contribute to integrations between internal systems, external vendors, and policy administration platforms.
- Participate in debugging, testing, automation, and operational support for production systems.
- Help improve internal engineering tooling and developer workflows.
- Use AI-assisted engineering workflows daily (Claude Code and similar) to improve development speed and quality.
- Learn insurance domain concepts including quoting, binding, endorsements, rating, forms, and policy lifecycle.
- Take ownership in ambiguity, learn quickly, and help turn evolving requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Jump into unfamiliar problems with team support.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of software engineering experience.
- Strong Python or JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals.
- Experience building or maintaining APIs, workflows, integrations, or internal tooling.
- Ability to deliver assigned features and components with moderate independence.
- Comfortable working in evolving requirements and asking thoughtful clarifying questions.
- Experience with testing, debugging, automation, monitoring, and production support practices.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools; Claude Code experience strongly preferred.
- Interest in learning or applying insurance, underwriting, or policy administration domain knowledge.
- Comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.
