About the Role
Eaton’s GEIS division is seeking a Sr Systems Engineer - Lighting to provide technical leadership and support for harsh, hazardous, and industrial luminaire products. This role involves defining system requirements, architecture, and integration of mechanical, optical, hardware, and software components.
Responsibilities
- Define system requirements, system activities, and provide technical leadership and support for luminaire products and components.
- Serve as a technical lead in system architecture and integration of mechanical, optical, hardware, and software.
- Review product requirements and generate system specifications.
- Contribute to or lead the design of system architecture.
- Define Validation & Verification strategy and oversee the V-cycle process.
- Collaborate with team members and project managers to estimate development, resources, and timing.
- Train and mentor less experienced engineers and provide technical direction to global engineering centers.
- Engage in a wide variety of projects and conduct feasibility studies.
- Provide technical support and interface with marketing, operations, and other departments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five (5) years of systems engineering experience (mechanical, optical, hardware, and software).
- Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support.
- Only candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of Highland, IL will be considered.
- Active-duty military members are exempt from this geographical limitation.
Skills
- Advanced knowledge of engineering processes, manufacturing techniques, and quality systems.
- Experience in Light Tools and other related design tools for optical engineering.
- Advanced product design principles.
- Engineered material selection.
- Design to cost analysis.

- Technical report writing.
- Computer assisted design (CAD).
- Proficiency with standard PC based spreadsheet and word processing tools.
- Experience with networked luminaire control systems.
- Proficiency with Engineering software (Solid Works and AutoCAD).
- Proficiency with Product Data Management systems (preferably SAP, Enovia).
- Experience with IESNA standards and application such as LM-79, TM-21, TM-30,etc.
- Demonstrated experience designing and optimizing optical solutions using LightTools or equivalent optical simulation software.
- Ability to interpret photometric data and correlate simulation results with physical testing.
