About the Role
As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT), you will stage, set up, and perform hardware deployments, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and decommissions. This role allows you to deepen your understanding of Data Center standard processes, develop mentoring skills, and familiarize yourself with security and data management procedures, accelerating your career growth. You will be part of Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, delivering core infrastructure for Microsoft's online services like Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Microsoft Azure.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting, identify issues, and replace faulty components with minimal disruption.
- Conduct post-execution quality checks for grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling according to safety protocols and deployment standards.
- Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes following standard procedures.
- Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Microsoft data center operations management units, Technician Leads, and engineering specialists.
- Assist and provide guidance to other technicians on complex tasks.
- Complete required training and observe experienced technicians for on-the-job training.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by sharing information and participating in team meetings.
- Demonstrate accountability and ownership for service quality, completeness, and user experience.
- Embody company culture and values.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
- Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
- Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
