About the Role
PulseForge is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design the next generation of their pulsed-light manufacturing systems and establish mechanical system development processes. This role offers broad technical ownership, from architecture and design decisions to release, with visibility into business context. You will collaborate with a small team, rapidly move from concept to hardware, and see your designs in customer production environments.
Responsibilities
- Design across the mechanical architecture of the platform, including machined structures, high-voltage packaging, production racks, lamp heads, and quartz optics.
- Own precision mechanisms, cooling and fluid systems, web and conveyor handling, and hardware integrating systems into customer production lines.
- Manage mechanical subsystems from architecture through production release and sustaining.
- Define the approach, materials, suppliers, and release decisions for mechanical systems.
- Determine when to calculate, prototype, test, and simulate.
- Establish mechanical practices, including drawing standards, review depth, and configuration control.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical depth.
- 5+ years of experience designing hardware that was built, tested, and released or deployed.
- Strong 3D CAD skills (Inventor preferred; SolidWorks, NX, or Creo are transferable).
- Applied mechanical fundamentals including statics, dynamics, materials, heat transfer, machine design, fasteners, structures, tolerancing, and manufacturability.
- Ability to produce release-ready output: clean models, drawings, BOMs, and packages for manufacturing and suppliers.
- Experience with design for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and cost, including scaling from prototype to production.
- Hands-on experience building, testing, modifying, and troubleshooting hardware.
- Clear communication regarding tradeoffs, risk, cost, schedule, performance, and release decisions.
