About the Role
Join the Systems Planning and Architecture (SPARC) team within Microsoft’s Azure Hardware Systems and Infrastructure (AHSI) organization to innovate the latest hardware designs for Microsoft’s cloud growth. This role involves technical capabilities, cross-team collaboration, and business insight to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more.
Responsibilities
- Architect security infrastructure around core AI technologies (e.g., accelerator modules such as MAIA) to work with the rest of the infrastructure based on throughput and latency requirements.
- Develop AI agents for security analysis of code and architecture.
- Perform threat model analysis of platform components and their interaction.
- Work with open-ended problem statements or figure out the problem statement from large datasets of business requirements, fleet telemetry, etc.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
- Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of professional experience in architecture, design & validation of SOC internal blocks (CPU, GPU or networking devices).
- Proven and demonstrable skill in System Verilog, Synthesis tools, debug & fix pre-silicon timing paths, UVM, C, Python.
- Knowledge of Rust is good to have.
- Familiarity with PCIe architecture as well as server architectures is a huge plus.
- Ability to debug and resolve issues spanning multiple subsystems.
- Must be open to learn newer areas and ability to wear multiple hats to seamlessly transition between architecture, design & validation.
- Strong problem solving, debugging and troubleshooting skills, advanced design and development skills.

- USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year (U.S. typical base pay range)
- USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)
