About the Role

The Portfolio Manager is part of the credit management team, focused on long-term risk-adjusted returns within an assigned business segment and/or geographic area. This individual manages a subset of existing credits and is a key partner in originating new credits. The Commercial Real Estate Credit team provides underwriting and portfolio management expertise to CRE clients, including private individuals, family offices, and institutional funds/investors/developers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive credit recommendations and presentations to key risk partners for new and existing clients.
  • Present credit recommendations within the bank's risk appetite and framework, adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Be responsive to client credit needs with a high level of client service and acumen.
  • Oversee and manage the assigned portfolio, including risk rating assessments, covenant reporting, and report preparation.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Own and manage an assigned credit portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and risk management practices.
  • Underwrite all types of credit exposures, manage credit risk, and respond to prospective client inquiries.
  • Analyze credit data and perform underwriting to assess creditworthiness and recommend appropriate structures.
  • Prepare underwriting memorandums and approval documents for Credit Risk presentation.
  • Perform portfolio management activities, including periodic reviews and covenant tracking.
  • Analyze credit data to support underwriting and creditworthiness assessments.
  • Develop and present individual credit recommendations.
  • Practice effective risk management, maintaining high standards of credit quality and origination.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers to manage credit account relationships.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive and effective credit operations.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects to support organizational priorities.
  • Provide exceptional client service, maintaining professionalism and effectively interacting with clients.
  • Participate in joint sales pitches with Relationship Managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Finance, Business or related field
  • Minimum 4 years of progressively increasing credit underwriting and portfolio management experience in relevant industry/industries
  • Advanced experience in credit management and lending operations, with a strong understanding of risk management principles
  • Desire to build leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to train and develop talent
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions
