About the Role

Schwab Technology Services provides innovative, reliable technology that helps clients and advisors manage their financial lives. The Digital Messaging Technology team supports high-volume platforms delivering communications across Schwab. In this role, you will design, build, test, deploy, and support scalable Java applications, REST APIs, and backend services across the messaging platform. You will partner with technical leads, Product Owners, and distributed Agile teams to solve complex problems, make thoughtful design decisions, strengthen platform reliability, and deliver capabilities that improve the client experience. Your impact will extend beyond development through mentoring, technical documentation, automated testing, CI/CD improvements, and the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools. Success requires strong problem-solving, collaboration, and adaptability as priorities and technologies evolve.

Responsibilities

Design, build, test, deploy, and support scalable Java applications, REST APIs, and backend services across the messaging platform.
Partner with technical leads, Product Owners, and distributed Agile teams to solve complex problems.
Make thoughtful design decisions.
Strengthen platform reliability.
Deliver capabilities that improve the client experience.
Mentor junior developers.
Contribute to technical documentation.
Improve automated testing.
Implement CI/CD improvements.
Utilize AI-assisted development tools.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
9+ years of professional software development experience building enterprise web applications.
Full-stack Java development experience.
5+ years of experience building REST services for high-volume, highly available environments.
6+ years of experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including SQL, Oracle, and MongoDB.
4+ years of experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
Experience designing and implementing RESTful services using Spring Boot.
Experience applying software design patterns and SOLID principles to scalable application development.
Experience translating requirements into technical designs.
Experience with unit, functional, integration, and end-to-end testing.
Experience with CI/CD concepts, API test automation, and automated deployment pipelines.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery outcomes.
Ability to collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.
Ability to make sound decisions.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a distributed environment.
Ability to research, create, and maintain architecture, design, API, and environment documentation.
Ability to contribute across the technology stack and learn new capabilities as the platform evolves.
Curiosity about emerging AI and automation tools and how they can improve engineering efficiency and software quality.
