About the Role
VERSANT is seeking a Senior Counsel for its corporate Privacy Legal team. This role will provide product, privacy, and data protection advice across VERSANT's global portfolio, working with various business and technology teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide product counseling across the lifecycle, partnering with business, product, technology, engineering, data, and other teams from ideation through launch and operation.
- Advise on a broad range of digital and consumer issues, including privacy, data protection, consumer protection, AI, marketing, and subscriptions.
- Translate legal requirements into business decisions by identifying risks, explaining their impact, and developing solutions.
- Support commercial matters by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating data, privacy, and other terms for digital products.
- Help the team scale by developing practical guidance, playbooks, training, and processes.
- Stay current on legal, regulatory, and technology developments and adapt guidance accordingly.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
- 7+ years of relevant legal experience, including meaningful experience counseling on product, technology, privacy, data, consumer, and related matters.
- Excellent judgment and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical advice.
- Ability to take ownership of matters and know when to collaborate or escalate.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple matters and shifting priorities.
- Willingness to learn about technology, products, business models, and data flows.
