About the Role
ADAPT Community Network is seeking a Preschool Special Education Floater Teacher for the Manhattan Children's Program. This role involves conducting educational classes for special education pre-school or Early Intervention students, acting as a team leader, and supervising Teacher Assistants. The position offers a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
Responsibilities
- Plans and conducts classes/activities adapted to student needs.
- Assesses and prepares IFSP/IEPs, implementing and evaluating goals.
- Participates in student transitioning activities.
- Participates in Initial Evaluations and Intake processes.
- Provides annual educational assessment and evaluation in all educational domains.
- Prepares and adapts lesson plans, materials, and environmental modifications.
- Maintains records of attendance and progress, writing reports.
- Ensures services are rendered with regard for student dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
- Participates in off-site activities like trips, pool, gym, libraries, and labs.
- Serves as a member of interdisciplinary teams, attending meetings.
- Attends staff meetings, student reviews, district meetings, and conferences.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates Teacher Assistants, recommending hiring, discipline, suspension, and termination.
- Requisitions and purchases class equipment and materials.
- Assists with transporting students between buses and building.
- Implements universal precautions.
- Assists with toileting, feeding, and positioning students.
- Attends supervisory and management meetings.
- Assists students with outer clothing.
- Substitutes in other classrooms as requested.
- Participates in in-service training programs.
- Confers with director or agency personnel regarding student programming and handling.
- Initiates precautions to ensure work is completed free from recognized hazards.
- Attends parent meetings and confers with parents on program content and progress.
- Assists with curriculum development.
- Provides supervision and training to student teachers.
- Stays informed of changes in the field.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and appropriate software.
- Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, children, parents, and outside contacts.
- Must maintain confidentiality of student records.
- Must maintain confidentiality of staff records.
- Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures.
- Must be available Monday-Friday, 8am-3pm.
