About the Role
Under general direction, this role is responsible for evaluating and treating students to facilitate rehabilitation and independence in daily living skills for children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Duties may vary based on assignments and programs.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates children to establish learning and performance capabilities and develops a treatment plan to attain established goals.
- Develops a treatment plan and goals based on assessment.
- Selects educational, recreational, and social activities to aid students in adjusting to their disability and teaches adaptive skills necessary to perform daily living and/or vocational tasks.
- Participates in in-service education for other patient care personnel.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews.
- Integrates therapeutic intervention techniques into programs or homes through consultation with parent/guardian and staff.
- Documents therapy activities and results on student records.
- Assists in the overall evaluation and rehabilitation of medical/psychiatric conditions by conferring with teachers, social workers, nurses, and families.
- Records progress on active cases, monitors therapy status, and makes recommendations.
- Refers students to other clinical services if appropriate.
- Designs, makes, and fits adaptive devices for student use.
- Trains and instructs program staff.
- Assists with arrival, dismissal, feeding, restroom use, and classroom management.
- Provides supervision to students and Occupational Therapy Assistants.
- Maintains equipment and orders supplies.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
- Available 5 days a week, 8am-3pm.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- 1 Year of prior Occupational Therapist experience preferred.
- Current NYS license in Occupational Therapy.
