About the Role
Rips is a rapidly growing collectibles app that currently exists on mobile and will be brought to the web. You will own the web platform's architecture, conventions, component patterns, and performance budget, building on existing backend systems. You will be the first dedicated web engineer, partnering with backend engineers and leveraging the team's existing React expertise.
Responsibilities
- Ship Rips on web, building on existing backend systems and APIs.
- Set the technical foundation for the web platform, including architecture, state management, build tooling, component patterns, testing strategy, and quality standards.
- Own the user experience, focusing on motion, micro interactions, responsive behavior, and load performance.
- Partner with backend engineers on API and data model design, providing feedback on contract feasibility.
- Create leverage by establishing patterns that accelerate feature development and guide mid-level engineers.
- Onboard through the React Native codebase, contributing to mobile while learning the product before starting web development.
Requirements
- Five or more years of experience building consumer web products.
- Demonstrated track record of building significant products from inception (0 to 1).
- Genuine command of web fundamentals, including the DOM, event loop, rendering, layout, and CSS.
- Experience owning consequential work, such as system design and shipping, rather than adjacent tasks like test coverage.
- Ability to take pride in both the build quality and user experience of a product.
- Skill in articulating and defending technical approaches, and willingness to change one's mind based on sound reasoning.
- Fluency in using AI as a tool for development, with the ability to explain all code shipped.
