About the Role
This position responds to scheduled and non-scheduled service response calls for a variety of tasks that may require electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC and other skills. Service areas include the Main Campus building and offsite offices/buildings, mechanical spaces, Boiler Rooms, CSR, Kitchen, and Laundry. Exceptional customer service and professionalism are necessary to represent the GFH Engineering Department to patients, visitors, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Performs service and repair activities for a wide variety of patient and customer needs including lighting repairs/replacements, heating/cooling calls, plumbing repairs, minor electrical repairs, minor painting patching and carpentry, ceiling tile replacements, and re-programming television inventory, systems, programming & minor repairs.
- Utilizes the facilities maintenance electronic ticketing and preventative maintenance system and responds to, follows-up on, and completes work order requests.
- Utilize building management system for HVAC adjustments.
- Performs preventive and predictive maintenance activities on hospital equipment and systems.
- Installs and repairs signage, pictures, cabinets, shelving, window coverings.
- Repairs and maintains stretchers, carts, wheelchairs and other equipment.
- Supports DNV Compliance activities through Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance for the Environment of Care, Life Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
- Repairs and rebuilds machinery, motors and equipment found in hospital utility systems and departments, as well as beds, stretchers and wheelchairs.
- Assists skilled trades as necessary.
- Assists with snow removal and other duties as assigned.
- May require on-call availability for emergencies.
- Contacts vendors to determine parts and material needs.
- Ensures compliance with all hospital policies and OSHA rules while conducting job duties.
Requirements
- 2-year trade school education, or 5 years’ experience, in a mechanical and/or electrical trade related to facilities operation and maintenance or experience as a maintenance technician in a healthcare, industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Demonstrated literacy is required.
- Some computer skills required to accurately and descriptively document all completed work, order materials, etc.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License Preferred.
- Demonstrated aptitude in one or more facility trade; mechanical, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, or plumbing.
- Mechanical aptitude, demonstrated through on-the-job and educational activities.
- Ability to safely and properly use hand and power tools, electrical meters and test equipment as well as maintenance lubricants, solvents and other industrial chemicals.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under minimal supervision.
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow procedures, manuals.
- Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Working indoors & outdoors, often in hot, cold, or cramped spaces.
- Frequent walking, standing, and manual dexterity for repairs.
