About the Role

The Aquatics Director is responsible for the success of all aspects of the aquatic programs and facilities of assigned locations, including branch and satellite day camp programs. This role develops and implements aquatic-related programs to promote membership growth and retention, and fosters a supportive, positive atmosphere for participants and staff. The Director assures the well-being of participants and staff in line with YMCA guidelines, managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs.

Responsibilities

Models and teaches the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Develops, maintains, and facilitates positive relationships with members, program participants, staff, and colleagues.
Provides overall supervision and support of Aquatic staff and volunteers.
Oversees, evaluates, and grows all aquatic programs, ensuring community needs are met and risk management is in place.
Develops, promotes, markets, and manages aquatic programs and offerings consistent with YMCA core values.
Assists with the development and implementation of membership recruitment, retention, and orientation strategies.
Coordinates facility and program needs with other Program Directors.
Oversees all Aquatic facility changes and communicates effectively.
Implements and follows all aquatic procedures and guidelines, including health and safety, forms, reports, and staff expectations.
Ensures Health Department bather codes are followed.
Communicates with members, director team, staff, participants, and parents in a timely and professional manner.
Acts as an ambassador of all YMCA programs with a focus on Aquatics.
Oversees all aquatic program areas and equipment in an orderly and safe manner.
Ensures pool maintenance and upkeep is maintained as required by health departments and The YMCA of the USA.
Works closely with the Property Director to assist with the maintenance and repair of all aquatic equipment and facilities.
Implements, follows, and enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
Develops and maintains a system to monitor certification status of all department staff.
Maintains appropriate inventory of equipment and supplies, including first aid, AED, and O2 supplies.
Participates in activities, trainings, workshops, and conferences for personal and professional growth.
Responsible for overall fiscal management, meeting deadlines, and budget for the Aquatics Department.
Active leader in membership retention and Annual Giving Campaign goals.
Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.
Participates as Relationship Manager on Duty (RMOD) per branch schedule.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
YMCA Team Leader certification (preferred) or completed within the first two years of employment
One to two years related experience preferred
Minimum age of 21
Completion of YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications required
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people
Budgeting experience (preferred)
Knowledge of Aquatic programs, YMCA preferred
Proficiency with pool filtration and chlorination systems
Proven track record of building program participation and relationships
Experience in a wide range of physical activities with the ability to instruct and perform duties of the swim instructor and/or Lifeguard
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent planning, organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills
Ability to multi-task with minimal direction
Excellent customer service, decision-making, problem solving, team oriented, and critical thinking skills
Leadership skills in an outgoing, friendly, assertive, professional, and mature manner
Effective communication skills
Observant, safety-conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency
Able to work flexible schedules
Must complete online Blood borne Pathogens, Youth Protection Series, Hazard Communications and Employee Safety trainings prior to initial assignment.
Must hold and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
Must hold and maintain American Red Cross or YMCA equivalent lifeguard certification.
Must achieve American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor within 1 year of employment.
Must hold and maintain WSI or YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification.
Must achieve YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor within 6 months of employment.
Certified Pool Operator or YMCA POOL certification within 1 year of employment.
Must achieve American Red Cross Lifeguard Management online within the first 60 days of employment.
Must complete Emergency Oxygen Administration Certification within the first 60 days of employment.
Must achieve Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding prior to first summer.
