About the Role
The Machinery and Equipment (M&E) Appraiser determines the realizable value of equipment to serve as collateral for loans in asset-based lending. This role supports lenders by providing independent assessments of collateral value for borrowing base calculations and credit decisions. The Analyst is responsible for data collection, analysis, on-site inspections, due diligence, management interviews, research, and report writing according to USPAP standards.
Responsibilities
- Participate in on-the-job training to learn fundamental Machinery & Equipment terminology, concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Review previously performed models and completed appraisal reports to understand the valuation process.
- Participate in travel for job inspections and client meetings, taking photographs and providing notes and equipment listings.
- Provide analytical and research support for projects, including company and industry analysis.
- Work in accordance with established methodologies and processes with direction from a project manager.
- Communicate with bank clients and appraised companies to understand company-provided information and operational challenges.
- Develop a qualitative understanding of factors affecting values and review findings with management and clients.
- Assist in producing final appraisal reports of quantitative and qualitative findings.
- Maintain the Gordon Brothers’ Appraisal Application database.
- Learn and adhere to USPAP standards for Machinery & Equipment valuations.
- Uphold Gordon Brothers’ Core Values and contribute to the strategic plan objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in business, finance, supply chain or operations management preferred.
- 1-2 years of previous related work experience, preferably in a manufacturing or other industrial environment; experience may include relevant internships.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
- Understanding of financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High degree of integrity and business acumen.
- Demonstrated data collection, data analysis, problem-solving, critical thinking, and project management skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with close attention to detail.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
- Willing to travel 25-35%, some overnight, for site inspections.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity during site inspections, including walking, bending, reaching, and/or climbing.
