About the Role
This two-term graduate course, MMG3001Y: Advanced Human Genetics, is offered within the MHSc Medical Genomics program. The goal is to establish a common knowledge base and introduce advanced concepts in quantitative trait genetics and epigenetics. The sessional position is for the second half of the course, focusing on human genetics from phenotype/clinical presentation to genotype, with an emphasis on molecular genetics and disease mechanisms.
Responsibilities
- Attend all sessions.
- Prepare lectures based on existing content and assignments.
- Answer student questions.
- Lead approximately one to two hours of lecture/discussion per session.
- Facilitate discussion or group work during remaining session time.
- Make minimal modifications to existing course materials as needed.
Requirements
- Hold an advanced degree (MD or PhD) in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Previous teaching experience at the university level.
- Experience with concepts in Advanced Human Genetics, including Mendelian and complex inheritance patterns, risk assessment, GWAS, epigenetics & epigenomics, pharmacogenetics, and cancer genetics/genomics.
- Familiarity with major genetic and genomic databases (e.g., UCSC Genome Browser, OMIM, ClinVar, CIViC, TCAG, COSMIC).
