About the Role
Provide technical laboratory services to the environmental laboratory and support laboratory operations for the testing of specimens submitted to PHO Laboratories.
Responsibilities
- Log, sort, and label all specimens submitted for laboratory testing/examination.
- Transport samples to the testing laboratory as required.
- Handle, prepare, and process medical samples for identification of micro-organisms, reagents, and solutions, and testing up to the point of result interpretation.
- Handle, prepare, process, and enter data entry results of water samples.
- Use automated equipment or manual methods to prepare and aliquot human samples for testing.
- Use PHO Laboratory Information System to prepare worksheets or enter data, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Prepare, load, and unload laboratory analyzers.
- Perform inventory management functions including ordering, unpacking, and storing laboratory goods.
- File, store, and discard laboratory samples.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.
- Maintain laboratory stock supplies.
- Assist with set-up of quality control and maintenance of stock cultures.
- Answer telephone and resolve problems related to samples.
- Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory safety procedures.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, MS Office products (Word and Excel).
- Proficient computer skills necessary to work with automated, computer-driven equipment.
Skills
- Oral communication skills to exchange information and clarify test requests or discrepancies.
- Written communication skills to record information into logs/records.

Education Level
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a recognized community college program or relevant training and experience.
Salary/Compensations
- $30.51 - $34.71
