About the Role

The College and Career Advisor works with students to develop plans for success in school, the workplace, and future personal and professional endeavors, providing guidance and support to help clients meet their college and career goals.

Responsibilities

Monitor student academic progress and schedule interventions to ensure graduation.
Advise students and parents on post-secondary options and provide information on colleges, scholarships, and financial aid.
Publicize information about standardized tests and help administer AP and PSAT exams.
Assess student skills and interests, and develop academic and college/career goals.
Advocate for students' rights and well-being, and teach self-advocacy skills.
Provide intervention for issues impacting school functioning and refer to mental health services if needed.
Maintain relationships with family members to address issues impacting student performance.
Participate in and facilitate student activities, including college visits and school events.
Liaise with schools, employers, and professional organizations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work or related fields.
3 years’ direct service experience working with youth and young adults related to academic advisement, interventions, counseling, and/or youth development services.
Bilingual in one or more of the following: Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Bengali and others, may be required depending on client needs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Effective conflict resolution skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
