About the Role
The Medical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a key member of the medical care team, responsible for complex patient evaluation and management. The APP provides patient care under the supervision of attending physicians, utilizing excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills. This role contributes to collaborative patient care, research, teaching, and consulting, while providing leadership within Mercy Hospital and the PA & NP profession.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct clinical services for medically ill adult patients according to established protocols and evidence-based standards.
- Act as Team Member/Leader during Rapid Response, Cardiac Arrest Code, Stroke Code, and other critical events in the absence of a physician.
- Deliver safe, effective, and compassionate patient care.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients.
- Address patient medical problems in the absence of the attending physician.
- Examine patients, assess physical condition, identify signs and symptoms, and develop a plan of care in collaboration with the attending physician.
- Participate in the medication reconciliation process during admission, discharge, or transfer of care.
- Document patient care plans through prompt maintenance of medical records, orders, and notes.
- Collaborate with attending physicians on medical admissions, including medication reconciliation and documentation.
- Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Explain procedures and their effects to patients, families, staff, and students.
- Assess family coping skills and identify needs for intervention.
- Practice proper infection control and sterile technique.
- Demonstrate ongoing improvement in bedside invasive and noninvasive procedures and maintain procedure logs.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience preferred.
- Current registration with NY Education Dept. as Physician Assistant.
- NCCPA Certification.
- ACLS, BLS, Infection Control Certificate.
