About the Role
As a Senior Distribution Supervisor in our Overhead/Underground Lines Department on Long Island, you will manage daily operations and direct your team to achieve desired results. You will assist in developing objectives and budgets, ensuring compliance with company standards, safety practices, and regulations. The role involves overseeing operations for a safe work environment, maximizing system reliability through effective planning, and developing staff to meet performance objectives. You will also ensure on-call coverage and accept call-out obligations, with the understanding that storm/outage restoration efforts may require performing different functions and working extended hours or in alternate locations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Distribution Supervisors and manage the operation of electric overhead and underground field crews.
- Plan the construction and maintenance of all overhead and underground transmission and distribution facilities.
- Coordinate internal organizations to ensure project completion within schedule and budget.
- Meet with external customers to prevent complaints and ensure satisfaction.
- Effectively utilize assigned resources and enforce safety policies and work practices.
- Assess area resource requirements and recommend alternatives for variances.
- Maintain responsibility for operating area yard conditions to meet company, local, and state requirements.
- Perform rotating stand-by duties as required by Electric Transmission and Distribution System needs.
- Manage over $15 million in tools, equipment, and physical resources.
- Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and administration, including financial documents and reports.
- Perform various functions for storm/outage restoration efforts, potentially working in alternate locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of five (5) years of electric utility experience in the operation and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution systems.
- Alternatively, candidates without a bachelor's degree require a minimum of ten (10) years of electric utility experience in the operation and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution systems.
- At least five (5) years of supervisory experience required; experience supervising a union workforce is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proven ability to achieve results and effectively manage challenging situations.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to coordinate, direct, and oversee field operations.
- Knowledge of and experience working with collective bargaining agreements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
- Preference for candidates with a strong working knowledge of the Local Union 1049 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Preference for candidates with demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and manage field operations.
- Preference for candidates with project management experience, including expertise in budgeting, cost control, and project execution.
- Successful applicants must prove they are a U.S. citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident, a citizen/national/permanent resident of a "Generally Authorized" destination and not a citizen/national/permanent resident of a non-listed country, or a "Protected Individual" under the Immigration and Naturalization Act if the position requires access to Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 information.
