About the Role
Manages first line of defense risk management responsibilities for a specified business unit within the Institutional Client Services Division, ensuring proactive identification, assessment, and reporting of risks, and timely completion of remediation plans.
Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and reporting for the business unit first line of defense risk management function.
- Ensure the documentation of key processes and internal controls across the division.
- Identify and assess risks across the business unit according to the Enterprise Risk Framework and ICS FLOD Program.
- Assist with reporting to business unit management, Bank management, and internal risk committees.
- Monitor business unit performance against key risk indicators (KRIs) and assist with remediation.
- Collaborate with business partners to ensure accurate and timely completion of Risk Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) and other risk management reporting.
- Identify emerging risks and risks associated with new or changed products, services, markets, or channels, and oversee reporting.
- Ensure effective management, reporting, and resolution of issues and remediation plans.
- Oversee the process for identifying and reporting risk events and losses.
- Escalate identified issues to the ICS Business Line Risk Officer and business unit management.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies for ICS, responding to regulatory and business changes.
- Respond to internal and external requests regarding departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
- Build working relationships with business unit management, Internal Audit, Corporate Operational Risk, and Corporate Compliance.
- Exercise managerial authority over staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls.
- Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk.
- Identify risk-related issues for escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and addressing regulatory issues.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years’ relevant work experience specific to the business unit supported, or a combined minimum of 13 years’ higher education and/or work experience (including a minimum of 9 years’ relevant work experience specific to the business unit supported).
