About the Role
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an RN with advanced clinical nursing education and certification in a distinct specialty area. NPs are independent practitioners who diagnose, treat, and prescribe for conditions within their specialty, without mandatory physician countersignature.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
- Holds overall clinical responsibility for the quality, outcomes, and effectiveness of occupational medicine programs, adhering to Medical Center and NYS, JCAHO, CDC, and OSHA guidelines.
- Provides clinical responsibility for medical services, including follow-up, tracking, and aggregate reporting.
- Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats occupational health and medical center employees/patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and implements Division of Occupational Medicine and Workforce Health policies and procedures.
- Utilizes computers and software for patient information input, access, and general reporting for patient treatment and compliance status.
- Maintains effective communication with clinic physicians regarding patient diagnosis and treatment, and policy implementation.
- Takes a proactive role in communicating and interacting with the treatment team and client contacts.
- Assumes responsibility for progress notes on patient encounters and maintains accurate, well-documented charts.
- Works with nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care and compliance with program policies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of medication actions, dosages, and side effects allowed by NYS law.
- Demonstrates competency in performing treatments and procedures, including blood drawing, EKG administration, vision and audio tests, spirometry, and fit testing.
- Assists in the development and implementation of protocols for efficient patient care.
- Ensures the safety of patients, staff, employees, and visitors in the clinical environment.
- Participates in ongoing QI-QA programs.
- Develops and presents at annual educational sessions for adult patient populations.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills for patient care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patients served.
- Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
- Leads the annual flu vaccine campaign, organizing and staffing PODs.
- Observes and adheres to Health Care System and Department compliance policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates accountability for timely and complete management, reporting, and tracking of clinical results.
- Promptly advises supervising physician of any issues in patient treatment or documentation.
- Maintains patient/employee confidentiality and security of confidential patient information.
- Keeps patient service documentation and data entry secure, organized, up-to-date, and clearly labeled.
- Utilizes time efficiently and maintains sensitivity to patient communication needs.
- Proactively participates in the expansion and improvement of Division of Occupational Medicine and Workforce Health operations.
- Meets regularly with the health care team and staff to update policy, procedures, treatment developments, and service administration strategies.
- Follows up on patient needs and requests promptly and appropriately.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- Tracks annual health compliance for employees, volunteers, and vendors.
- Follows up on employees out on worker’s compensation.
- Initiates referrals to specialty areas and fosters continuity of care.
- Participates in team meetings and conferences.
- Creates MS Power Point graphs to present aggregate data to leadership.
- Scans documents into EMR storage system (OnBase).
- Registers employees, volunteers, and vendors in the EMR system during each visit.
- Answers incoming calls from the Call Center.
- Performs other non-clinical responsibilities as assigned by Medical or Clinical Director.
Requirements
- Master's from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Current NYS Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licenses and registration certifications.
- Current ANCC certification.
- Willing to accept fluctuating hours as needed.
- Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude.
- Excellent technical and patient care skills.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and some prior hands-on experience.
- Models a customer service focus.
- Respects patient confidentiality, privacy, and dignity.
- Requires appointment to Medical Center Allied Health Personnel Staff.
