About the Role
The Litigation and Program Counseling Unit (LPCU) represents the Agency in litigation and provides legal counsel to various program areas within the New York City Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration. This role involves providing legal counsel, drafting legal opinions and litigation documents, and representing the Agency in court and administrative hearings.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to multiple DSS/HRA program areas.
- Draft legal opinions, interpret laws and regulations, and analyze proposed amendments.
- Draft litigation documents, including affidavits, motion papers, memoranda of law, and answers to pleadings.
- Represent the Agency in Supreme and Civil Courts and administrative hearings.
- Provide litigation support to the NYC Law Department in federal class actions and other major litigation.
- Perform other related tasks.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.
