About the Role
The Shkabewis Cultural Support Worker will support families in fostering child development, achieving personal goals, and building community connections. This role ensures accessibility and integration of services within the Aboriginal Child and Family Centre and Early Years Programs.
Responsibilities
- Provide fair, respectful, and culturally relevant services to Indigenous children and families.
- Assist program staff with integrating Indigenous knowledge into programs.
- Collaborate with Elders/Knowledge Keepers to support cultural programs and protocols.
- Deliver cultural programs tailored to participant interests, age, and ability.
- Organize participants to ensure engagement and equal opportunities.
- Incorporate "on the land" experiences into programs.
- Engage with the community to foster understanding of cultural identity.
- Support cultural events and activities.
- Act as an Indigenous role model.
- Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Requirements
- Recognized by community for lived experience and understanding of Indigenous worldviews and traditional teachings.
- Lived experience as an Indigenous person with ability to share traditional knowledge and facilitate cultural programming.
- Ability to engage and collaborate respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, children, youth, families, community members, students, caregivers, allies, and partners.
- Valid Infant/Child CPR certificate.
- Pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record check.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture in an urban environment, including ceremonies and protocol.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational skills.

- Knowledge of cultural safety practices.
- Flexibility to work program hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
