About the Role

This role leads the Data, AI, KYC and Specialized Business portfolio within RBC Caribbean Banking Technology, focusing on delivering modern, resilient solutions. The position involves modernizing the Caribbean data foundation, engineering AI solutions, and overseeing software development for KYC and Specialized Business Applications. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise in data and AI with strong leadership and project delivery skills in the banking sector.

Responsibilities

Own end to end delivery of data engineering and data product initiatives for the Caribbean.
Lead the data modernization roadmap and architecture, retiring legacy data flows.
Establish and enforce data governance practices meeting regulatory and audit expectations.
Mature CI/CD and orchestration for data pipelines with automated testing and monitoring.
Partner with business lines to define data products and self-service capabilities.
Define, communicate and execute the AI solutions roadmap for Caribbean applications.
Build and grow an AI engineering practice, designing, developing, deploying and operating AI solutions.
Establish engineering foundations for AI at scale, including reusable patterns for LLM integration and RAG.
Lead operational support for AI solutions in production, including monitoring and incident management.
Champion ethical and responsible AI, ensuring compliance with RBC policies and regulatory requirements.
Stay abreast of AI advancements and evaluate their applicability to the Caribbean banking context.
Lead the software development team for a portfolio of vendor applications supporting Specialized Business functions.
Lead active development of the KYC platform, owning the backlog, architecture direction, and engineering quality.
Manage vendor relationships and service ownership, including contracts, SLAs, and escalations.
Deliver the project portfolio through disciplined Agile delivery, managing scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
Embed modern engineering practices (DevOps, automation, CI/CD) to improve resilience and reduce risk.
Ensure disaster recovery, uptime, and resilience for all production systems.
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing, cross-regional team of engineers.
Own talent acquisition, performance management, career development, and retention for the team.
Collaborate with Caribbean business leaders, product managers, and technology partners.
Contribute to the Senior Director’s broader technology strategy and represent the portfolio in governance forums.

Requirements

10+ years of progressive experience across data engineering, software development and/or AI engineering.
8+ years in a leadership role managing engineers and delivery teams, with a strong emphasis on production delivery and operations.
Proven experience working within the banking or financial services industry.
Demonstrated track record of delivering large scale, multi project programs in complex enterprise environments.
Hands on AI engineering skills and proven experience building AI solutions from concept to production.
Strong experience with modern data architecture and cloud data platforms.
Experience managing a portfolio of vendor applications alongside internal development.
Exceptional leadership, mentorship, and team building abilities.
Outstanding communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, including with senior executives.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related quantitative field.
Experience with KYC, AML or onboarding platforms and related regulatory obligations (Nice to have).
Experience leading distributed or cross regional teams (Nice to have).
Familiarity with Caribbean or international banking (Nice to have).
Knowledge of data engineering tools (Nice to have).
Master’s degree in a related field (Nice to have).
Adaptability, critical thinking and a growth mindset (Nice to have).
