About the Role
The Summer College Internship Program is a 10-week paid internship experience designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities for development workshops, networking, and meaningful project work. Interns are mentored by their managers and participate in development workshops focused on key business concepts. The program offers skills-based tracks in various business and technical areas. Housing is not provided.
Responsibilities
- Extract, validate, and analyze healthcare claims, enrollment, provider, and quality data.
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and ad hoc analyses.
- Perform data quality reviews to identify anomalies, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Document business requirements, data definitions, and analytical methodologies.
- Assist with data visualization and storytelling by translating complex findings into clear and actionable summaries.
- Learn healthcare analytics concepts including utilization, cost and trend analysis, provider performance, quality measures, and population health metrics.
- Work with a mentor and support key strategic projects.
- Complete work assignments based on business needs, departmental priorities, and individual qualifications.
- Perform a mix of technical and/or non-technical tasks covering a broad range of business-related projects.
- Create and deliver presentations at the completion of the internship.
- Maintain confidentiality and protection of member privacy.
- Attend development workshops focused on key business concepts.
Requirements
- High School diploma along with proof of continuous college enrollment (enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program).
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to interact with technical and non-technical audiences and interface with staff at all levels of the company.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work well in a team establishing good working relationships with peers.
- Demonstrates strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving and prioritization skills.
- Proactive approach to work, displaying creativity and flexibility in completing assigned tasks.
- Commitment to continuous improvement of skills and team functioning.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as on intra- and inter- departmental teams as needed.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using a desktop computer in a professional environment.
- Ability to work while sitting and/or standing at a workstation viewing a computer and using a keyboard, mouse and/or phone for three (3) or more hours at a time.
- Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or training courses as needed.
Skills
- Data analysis using SQL, SAS, or similar analytical tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, data manipulation, and basic reporting.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of database concepts and data structures.
