About the Role

Under the direction of an anesthesia provider, the Anesthesia Technician supports the safe and efficient delivery of anesthesia care by assisting with equipment preparation, maintenance, and workflow coordination.

Responsibilities

Assembles transducer and pressure cables of single and triple arterial line kits.
Flushes lines of air, performs zero calibration of the monitor, and primes IV pumps.
Collaborates with anesthesia provider during insertion of invasive lines (IV, arterial, CVP, Swan Ganz introducer).
Connects non-sterile catheter lines and flushes with saline solution, and inflates the balloon upon insertion of the pulmonary artery catheter.
Coordinates and sets up for difficult intubation cases, both emergency and non-emergency.
Organizes equipment for intubation cases, including laryngoscopes, light sources, and endotracheal tubes.
Accompanies anesthesia provider to CPRs and traumas when anesthesia is requested.
Collaborates with anesthesia provider and nursing staff to determine equipment and supplies needed for patient care management.
Transports anesthesia machine and supply cart for procedures outside the OR suite (e.g., catheter lab, CT scan, angio suite).
Sets up anesthesia machine by plugging it in, connecting gas lines, and testing it prior to the procedure.
Assists anesthesia provider and OR staff in securing EKG wires, BP cuff, and pulse oximeter sensors, including for neonatal and pediatric cases.
Stocks IV solutions and supplies in anesthesia supply carts and machines daily across various departments.
Checks supplies for sterility and expiration dates.
Ensures equipment is operable and appropriate, especially during evening and night shifts.
Checks O2 and N2O tank levels on each machine and ensures availability of emergency equipment.
Maintains anesthesia machines by keeping them clean, replacing used suction canisters and hoses, and ensuring items are sterilized.
Checks all oxygen monitors and replaces electrolyte and/or sensor membranes as needed.
Troubleshoots and performs minor repairs on anesthesia equipment, including fluid warmers, Bair huggers, light sources, BP monitors, pulse oximeters, EKG, CO2, BIS monitors, laryngoscopes, infusion pumps, and ultrasound machines.
Checks and supplies emergency carts, such as malignant hypothermia, pediatric crash cart, and difficult intubation cart.
Performs and documents activities on a scheduled basis.
Consults with Biomed to ensure equipment inspections are performed.
Collaborates with Biomed on hazardous gas analysis with outside vendors for annual OR suite inspections.
Manages everyday operations of the anesthesia department (non-patient related) under the direction of the OR Manager, OR Director, and Chairman of Anesthesia Department.
Standardizes supplies through work with Product Evaluation Committee and Specialty Procurement Committee.
Works with purchasing personnel to obtain the lowest prices on products.
Arranges for the evaluation of supplies and equipment by planning and conducting trials.
Makes recommendations for capital purchase of equipment.
Controls costs and stays within budgetary limits.
Assists the Nurse Educator with new and updated policies.
Assists in the training and development of new staff members on anesthesia supplies and equipment.
Performs additional responsibilities as requested.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
One (1) year experience in a patient care area
CPR Certification within 3 months of hire
