About the Role
Griffith Foods is hiring an R&D Technician, Sauces & Dressings to support the development of innovative sauces, dressings, condiments, and related food products. In this role, you will assist with product formulation, sample preparation, pilot plant activities, product evaluation, and technical project support from concept through commercialization. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative and innovative R&D team where you can contribute to exciting food innovation projects, develop technical expertise, and help bring new products to market.
Responsibilities
- Batch samples and prepare sauces, dressings, condiments, and related products according to manufacturing instructions and formulations.
- Maintain laboratory ingredient inventory, source materials, labels, and supplies, and manage approved ingredient inventories.
- Conduct product evaluations, testing, experimentation, and support product development activities under the guidance of senior R&D team members.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.
- Operate laboratory, analytical, and pilot plant equipment including pH meters, viscometers, water activity meters, and texture analyzers.
- Support plant trials, production trials, sensory evaluations, and product presentations.
- Package and ship samples to customers and support interactions with suppliers and clients as required.
- Maintain cleanliness, food safety, quality, and compliance standards within laboratory and pilot plant environments.
Requirements
- Completion of a minimum 2-year College program in Food Science or a related field.
- More than 1 year of relevant experience in food product development, laboratory environments, or food manufacturing.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications and laboratory documentation systems.
- Reside within a commutable distance of the Scarborough location and will be required to come onsite to that location.
Skills
- Culinary and/or Microbiology training.
- Experience working with sauces, dressings, condiments, emulsions, dips, gravies, or similar liquid food systems.
- Understanding of ingredient functionality including hydrocolloids, starches, proteins, oils, emulsifiers, and preservatives.
- Experience with bench-top formulation, pilot plant processing, scale-up activities, sensory evaluation, and product troubleshooting.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when preparing formulations and documenting results.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Ownership of food safety, quality, and laboratory best practices.
- Enjoy hands-on product development and food preparation activities.
- Thrive in a collaborative team environment.

- $53,000 to $65,000 annually
