Handle serious and complex claims primarily in New York jurisdictions, requiring communication with insureds, attorneys, and other parties. Utilize technical claims knowledge and decision-making skills to settle claims within assigned authority.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities as outlined for Claims Specialist.
  • Investigate and handle primarily New York Workers' Compensation claims of a complex and serious nature, and other jurisdictions as needed.
  • Perform special claims investigation and handle matters requiring broad technical claims knowledge.
  • Operate on an independent basis with little supervision.
  • Settle claims within assigned authority.
  • Engage in numerous contacts with attorneys concerning serious claim matters.
  • Review court decisions, law and coverage interpretations.
  • Assume duties of the Claims Supervisor in the Supervisor's absence.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in business administration or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years as Claims Specialist or 3-4 years adjusting experience.
  • Lost time experience required.
  • Experience with NY jurisdictions preferred.
  • Required to obtain licenses as an adjuster in assigned states.
  • Maintain licenses throughout employment.
