About the Role
Bluefish is seeking an experienced Controller to manage the entire accounting lifecycle for a growing organization. This role requires operational expertise, strategic thinking, and a hands-on approach to building scalable financial systems. The Controller will oversee client billing, revenue recognition, monthly close, financial reporting, and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage the end-to-end accounting function, including client billing setup, invoicing, revenue recognition, and monthly close.
- Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Legal, and Customer Success to ensure accurate contract setup and billing.
- Establish and improve processes for invoicing, collections, revenue tracking, and cost allocations.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, revenue, AR, and deferred revenue.
- Manage bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes and internal controls.
- Support internal and external audits, compliance reporting, and tax filings.
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and tools.
- Serve as a strategic advisor on financial operations, reporting, and planning initiatives.
Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years in a managerial or senior-level role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and financial reporting.
- Experience in SaaS or subscription-based businesses highly preferred.
- Proven ability to build and scale accounting operations in a fast-growing company.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and billing platforms (e.g., Rillet, QuickBooks, Stripe, Ramp, Aleph, or similar).
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Prior experience working in a startup or fast-paced, high-growth environment is required.
- Comfort with cross-functional collaboration.
