About the Role
Bluefish is seeking a Head of Finance / Director of Finance to scale the finance function during its next growth phase. This role will lead FP&A and strategic finance, while also managing core accounting and controllership functions to ensure financial discipline, accurate reporting, and scalable processes. It's a high-impact position for a strategic partner and hands-on leader driving accuracy, controls, and rigor.
Responsibilities
- Own FP&A and strategic finance, overseeing core accounting and controllership functions.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes.
- Build and maintain the core SaaS financial model and operating metrics.
- Partner with GTM leadership and Revenue Operations on forecasting and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with Product/Engineering on headcount planning, spend forecasting, and ROI analysis.
- Drive monthly variance analysis and executive-level performance narratives.
- Own executive dashboards and Board reporting materials.
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
- Manage internal accounting resources and external accounting firms.
- Maintain financial controls, approvals, and audit-ready processes.
- Ensure compliance with revenue recognition (ASC 606), deferred revenue, billing, accruals, compensation expense, equity accounting, and expense classification.
- Manage accounts payable, vendor management, payroll coordination, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger integrity.
- Prepare for and support annual audits, tax filings, and compliance needs.
- Implement and improve core finance systems and workflows.
- Build scalable processes for spend management, cash management, procurement, and budgeting.
- Improve tools and reporting systems for real-time performance visibility.
- Support the hiring and development of the finance team.
- Lead fundraising support, including investor reporting and diligence.
- Partner on pricing, packaging, and unit economics initiatives.
- Evaluate strategic opportunities, vendor negotiations, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- 8–12+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, and accounting.
- Startup experience is required.
- Prior experience supporting board reporting processes.
- Direct experience with investor diligence, data room preparation, and financial modeling for institutional investors.
- Track record of scaling a finance organization from post-Series B maturity to the next stage of growth.
- Experience owning or overseeing accounting close cycles and controllership responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of SaaS financials and metrics; familiarity with ASC 606.
- Proven ability to build and improve finance processes and internal controls.
- Strong analytical and modeling skills.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with high ownership.
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills.
- Experience with finance systems and tooling.
