About the Role
The Maintenance Worker maintains the building in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Duties may include repairing fixtures and equipment, performing routine maintenance, general and heavy-duty cleaning, notifying management of repair needs, and snow and debris removal.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing, and equipment repair or replacement.
- Performs preventive building maintenance duties such as caulking windows and doors, and repairing/replacing broken windows.
- Performs plumbing repairs including unstopping toilets and sinks, and fixing water leaks and faucets.
- Performs electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs and replacing ballasts and light fixtures.
- Travels to various Birch facilities and supply stores for maintenance assignments.
- Purchases necessary supplies, equipment, and materials for projects.
- Works with team members to complete maintenance and capital improvement tasks.
- Assembles and moves furniture, hangs pictures and bulletin boards, and moves and sets up tables and chairs.
- Steam cleans and shampoos carpets; strips, seals, and polishes floors.
- Repairs and replaces doorknobs or locks, repairs door closures, and patches holes in walls.
- Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
- Ensures hazardous conditions are addressed promptly, including snow removal, trash gathering and removal, and debris removal.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Two (2) or more years of building maintenance experience.
- Maintenance assignments involve moderate to heavy work in all types of weather.
- Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), and perform other similar actions.
- A valid New York State driver’s license.
