About the Role
Beacon is seeking a technical Chief of Staff to jump seamlessly into unfamiliar codebases, architectures, and cross-functional teams. This role will increase overall leverage by an order of magnitude by addressing critical technical work that currently falls on the CTO or goes undone.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with the CTO and embed with portfolio companies during critical inflection points, ensuring critical launches and migrations land smoothly.
- Scale modern AI workflows across 30+ lean engineering teams.
- Evaluate which portfolio products are durable versus exposed to AI disruption.
- Own the technical workstream post-LOI for tech M&A diligence, including auditing architectures, reviewing codebases, analyzing infrastructure costs, and writing technical debt POVs.
- Carry diligence findings post-close to ensure remediation.
- Act as connective tissue between engineering and other departments (deal, ops, finance, pod leaders).
- Serve as a face for Beacon in the San Francisco tech and founder scene through technical content and speaking engagements.
- Address technical challenges such as stalled migrations, outages, unexpected departures, or vendor renegotiations.
- Maintain the CTO's operating cadence by preparing materials for pod tech reviews, Investment Committee, tracking key tech KPIs, and supporting senior hiring loops.
Requirements
- Ideally a former founder with 3-4 years of experience post-graduation.
- YC or equivalent accelerator background preferred.
- Proven track record of building and shipping full-stack products end-to-end.
- Comfortable diving into unfamiliar stacks and reading code quickly.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Capable of writing technical blogs and communicating complex systems to non-technical stakeholders.
- Extreme hustle, high adaptability, and strong systems thinking.
- This is an elite technical execution role, not a project management or administrative EA position.
