About the Role

To assist the Member by completing assigned casework and outreach duties, including organizing events, responding to constituent inquiries, and managing media and social media presence.

Responsibilities

  • Organize events, hearings, meetings, and press conferences.
  • Respond to constituent questions and concerns.
  • Prepare, gather, maintain, and compile research material for the Member.
  • Respond to requests for research or information from constituents.
  • Monitor local media to ensure a strong media presence for the Member.
  • Prepare weekly columns, draft op-eds, standard media releases, and arrange interviews.
  • Develop and manage social media presence to increase the Member's visual identity.
  • Assist with outreach and engagement to promote awareness of the Member in the riding.
  • Stay informed on assigned policy areas and liaise with interest groups.
  • Handle inquiries, solve problems, and advocate for constituents (casework).
  • Contact and respond to constituents via telephone, writing, and in person.
  • Contact senior government personnel, officials from outside organizations, and local government.
  • Prepare all documentation related to casework.
  • Travel throughout the Riding to perform outreach, casework, and event planning.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Member.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the NDP and the Canadian labour movement, Canadian government, Ontario government, and public affairs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Equity and Diversity frameworks and considerations.
  • Ability to write articles and reports, meet deadlines, produce accurate work, and maintain organized records.
  • Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of the Member’s constituents.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent social media skills and associated best practices (Twitter, Facebook, Mailchimp, etc.).
  • Familiarity with the Member’s constituency, portfolio areas, and key stakeholder groups in the riding is essential.
  • Proficiency in a second language (e.g., Tagalog or Amharic) is an asset.
  • Experience in NDP organizations and community organizing is an asset.
  • Knowledge and existing rapport with local riding and community members is preferred.
  • Proficiency in editing videos and creating content on social media is desired.
