About the Role

Serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing administrative and/or clinical support to ambulatory patient care teams. Ensure a high-quality patient experience through excellent customer service, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients courteously and answer phones promptly.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and timely communication to nurses and providers regarding patients.
  • Schedule patient appointments accurately for optimal care and provider efficiency.
  • Collect demographic and financial information during registration processes.
  • Handle payments, cash, and process insurance eligibility and managed care information.
  • Maintain required knowledge and proficiency in core front desk functions.
  • Support the collection of Advanced Beneficiary Notice signatures and form processing.
  • Make corrections to patient information within 24 hours of notification.
  • Answer patient questions about the organization and services, and provide directions.
  • Process urgent and routine referral requests.
  • Ensure complete and accurate information is recorded for referrals.
  • Obtain prior authorizations and document them appropriately within referrals.
  • Work referral queues and follow up with referred providers.
  • Prepare for provider clinics by reviewing charts and ensuring necessary reports are available.
  • Prepare medication refill messages per guidelines.
  • Distribute patient literature as necessary.
  • Perform point of care testing (glucometer, urinalysis, anticoagulation) and run controls.
  • Perform EKGs per departmental protocol.
  • Room patients, identify them using two identifiers, and document work-up information.
  • Utilize the EMR clinical documentation system for patient care duties.
  • Communicate patient issues/concerns to providers.
  • Clean and stock exam rooms, and check medications and supplies for out-dates.
  • Monitor supply levels for inventory control.
  • Enter charges for supplies and clinical testing.
  • Convey payment due to patients and process payments.
  • Maintain and balance cash drawer daily.
  • Date stamp and deliver incoming patient-related information.
  • Complete basic patient demographic information on forms.
  • Mail outgoing patient information and assist with routing forms.
  • Prepare correspondence to patients and/or other entities.
  • Prepare outside patient health information for scanning.
  • Index and scan hard-copy patient health information.
  • Send requests for medical record releases to the appropriate HIM location.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of office supplies and forms.
  • Establish and maintain departmental record keeping and filing systems.
  • Open and/or close clinic per divisional guidelines.
  • Follow proper procedures for accessing secure areas.
  • Cover at other locations or departments as requested.
  • Adapt to various work-flows, processes, and policies.
  • Attend required in-services and training opportunities.
  • Maintain job-specific knowledge and proficiency in insurance, scheduling, charge coding, and point of care testing.
  • Maintain knowledge of Bassett policies and procedures.
  • Perform similar or related duties as requested or directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred
  • Minimum one year relevant work experience (Associates degree or higher may be substituted), required
  • Customer service experience, preferred
  • BLS certification within 6 months of date of hire
