About the Role
The Manager of Business Development is a direct sales position focused on high-value prospects in B2B verticals that do not currently accept American Express cards. This role involves partnering with prospects and internal stakeholders to create innovative solutions and expand B2B coverage, drive charge volume, and focus on Welcomed Acceptance.
Responsibilities
- Own the Market
- Lead the full acquisition process within your territory, targeting high-value Middle clients through strategic, consultative selling.
- Build and sustain executive-level relationships with CEOs, CFOs, and financial leaders — positioning American Express as their partner of choice for growth and efficiency.
- Leverage your market intelligence, network, and industry insight to identify, develop, and convert new business opportunities.
- Maintain a strong in-market presence with 25–50% travel, ensuring personal engagement with the clients who matter most.
Requirements
- Track record of conceiving, structuring, selling in, and implementing creative, innovative deals
- Ensures proper business process, conduct and compliance controls and adherence
- Demonstrated ability to form relationships and drive consensus with key internal stakeholders, including pricing, legal, Card issuers, Risk, and other internal partners
- Strong financial acumen. Excellent financial and analytical skills used to prepare and present quantitative analyses to prospects.
- Strong primary and secondary account/ industry research skills; demonstrated ability to leverage professional network and third-party sources to develop deep understanding of prospect needs, anticipated objections, and potential leverage points
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong executive presence.
- Strong negotiation skills; demonstrated ability in building rapport and earning credibility with prospects.
- Flexible; comfortable in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and changes in direction.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of successful outside sales experience.
- Proficiency with Salesforce.com an asset.
- Candidate must reside in the designated territory
- Applicant must have a valid driver's license.
- A motor vehicle records check will be conducted for all successful candidates at the time of offer.
- Disclosure of all moving violations within the last 3 years is required during the application process.
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
