About the Role

The Senior Manager, Client Management role offers the opportunity to leverage strong relationship management, consultative selling, negotiation, and strategic thinking to deepen partnerships with some of American Express' largest and most complex merchant clients. The Senior Manager will manage a portfolio of strategic National Client Group relationships, with responsibility for driving profitable growth, increasing American Express spend and share, and delivering value to both our merchant partners and American Express.

Responsibilities

Develop innovative partnerships and negotiate profitable deal structures, value levers, pricing scenarios, and contractual terms.
Build, cultivate, and expand senior-level relationships with merchants and across American Express, serving as a trusted advisor.
Drive charge volume growth, revenue, share, and profitability by understanding merchant businesses and connecting needs with American Express products.
Develop and execute client strategies to increase spend and share on American Express through innovative partnerships and solutions.
Own the economics and profitability of assigned client relationships, optimizing financial performance and developing strategic growth plans.
Lead complex initiatives by partnering with teams including Strategic Partnerships, Marketing, Finance, Pricing, Risk, Operations, Compliance, and Legal.

Requirements

Experienced relationship manager with a proven ability to build and deepen complex client relationships, identify client needs, sell B2C and B2B programs, and uncover new opportunities.
Demonstrated experience negotiating complex commercial agreements, with an understanding of card acceptance economics, profitability levers, financial statements, and client economics.
Proven consultative selling skills, with the ability to translate client needs into compelling solutions, close deals, and deliver measurable results.
Strong executive presence and communication skills, both internally and externally.
Ability to lead senior-level discussions, navigate complex stakeholder environments, and influence decision-making.
Strong strategic, financial, and analytical capabilities.
Ability to assess business opportunities, develop recommendations, and balance growth with profitability.
Demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and initiative to generate ideas, identify new business opportunities, solve complex challenges, and develop differentiated client solutions.
Ability to influence without direct authority and collaborate effectively across a highly matrixed organization.
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship.
