About the Role
The Primary Counselor is responsible for delivering and implementing long-term supervision, support, and clinical services to adolescents with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. This role involves serving as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
Responsibilities
- Provides weekly caseload group sessions to assist residents in developing and obtaining goals.
- Provides bi-weekly individual counseling sessions to assist residents in developing and obtaining goals.
- Performs initial and ongoing screening of residents and resident property.
- Documents and charts resident progress using agency forms and tools.
- Documents, facilitates, and supervises daily group formats.
- Supervises clients in self-medication under supervision.
- Participates in individual and group supervision.
- Communicates pertinent information, incidents, and emergencies using appropriate systems.
- Provides crisis interventions and follow-up, including documentation.
- Manages the client population and facilitates the daily house schedule.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience with substance abuse disorders.
- 1-2 years of experience working with adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems.
- 1-2 years of experience working in an OASAS funded facility is a plus.
- Commitment to providing quality services and outcome-driven performance measures.
- Excellent organizational management skills with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance clinicians, and set and achieve program objectives.
- Strong networking and public relations skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, populations, and cultures.
- Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to program planning.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
