About the Role
Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Responsible for radiology student supervision and evaluation. Exercises professional judgment and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with respect to the special needs of each patient age group and persons with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Operates X-ray Equipment in accordance with State and Federal Codes.
- Positions patient for proper orientation of anatomy.
- Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
- Identifies film and/or other identification by displaying Right and left marker properly, utilizing accessory markers, and patient information and date displayed on all images.
- Displays proper procedures for the preparing, labeling and dispensing of radiographic contrast media and the labeling of medications on the sterile field.
- Evaluates requisition for patient identification, procedure to be performed, clinical history, reason for the exam, and appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Provides patient care by verifying patient identification, introducing self, explaining the procedure, verifying patient prep, identifying contraindications, and providing appropriate assistance to the imaging table.
- Maintains patient care by maintaining patient dignity and modesty, talking to the patient in a concerned, professional manner, utilizing standard precautions, providing proper instructions for moving and breathing, assessing the patient’s condition, and providing for the patient’s safety and security.
- Operates functions of HIS/RIS in accordance with Hospital and Department policy.
- Pursues appropriate continuing education, acquiring 12 educational credits annually.
- Performs Daily Quality Assurance activity based upon established departmental protocol.
Requirements
- Current New York State licensure to practice Diagnostic Radiography.
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). (Employees hired prior to January 2001 are excluded from this requirement)
- Completion of a two year approved ARRT School.
