About the Role
Lead an experienced global team responsible for investigating and responding to critical, complex, and urgent safety cases, ensuring care, consistency, and sound judgment. Set strategy and strengthen operational effectiveness of the Critical Response function globally, preparing for an evolving safety landscape. Collaborate across departments and build external partnerships. Champion Bumble values by making thoughtful decisions, empowering the team, and exploring responsible AI use.
Responsibilities
- Own the strategy, operational objectives, and performance of the global Critical Response function.
- Translate emerging safety risks and long-term priorities into clear plans, measures of success, and scalable operating practices.
- Lead, coach, and empower a globally distributed team of experienced professionals.
- Create an inclusive culture of Courage, Respect, sound judgment, and continuous learning.
- Ensure effective coverage, capacity planning, and operational readiness across US, UK, and Australia time zones.
- Strengthen Critical Response and law enforcement operations by evolving investigation processes, escalation pathways, decision frameworks, training, quality standards, and incident preparedness.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex, sensitive, and novel incidents.
- Collaborate across Policy, Product, Legal, Engineering, and Communications to navigate ambiguity and align stakeholders.
- Build meaningful measures of operational health.
- Use Trust & Safety risk analytics, case trends, and quality insights to identify emerging threats, recurring harms, and operational gaps.
- Translate insights into improvements across policy, product, tooling, and operations.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to reimagine tools and capabilities for investigations and critical incident management.
- Identify responsible opportunities to use AI and automation to improve speed, consistency, and insight.
- Protect privacy, assess outputs for bias and accuracy, and preserve human oversight for consequential decisions.
- Strengthen relationships with law enforcement, non-profits, government agencies, and other relevant external stakeholders.
- Partner with Partnerships to evolve outreach programs and build understanding of Bumble’s platforms, safety practices, and Critical Response capabilities.
- Establish mechanisms for case review, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Adapt plans with an agile mindset based on lessons from major incidents and emerging trends.
Requirements
- Typically requires 8+ years of experience, or equivalent skills from alternative backgrounds.
- Substantial experience in global Trust & Safety, investigations, crisis or critical incident response, law enforcement operations, risk management, or a related field.
- Deep experience navigating complex and highly sensitive escalations.
- Experience building trusted partnerships with law enforcement, government agencies, non-profits, or other external safety organizations.
- Ability to represent operational perspectives clearly and credibly with external stakeholders.
- Experienced people leader who has developed high-performing teams, ideally across multiple regions or time zones.
- Leads with Respect while creating clarity, accountability, and opportunities for others to grow.
- Strong expertise in escalation management and operational process design.
- Experience building scalable workflows, governance, quality standards, preparedness practices, and performance frameworks.
- Ability to enable consistent decision-making.
- Uses data and operational insights to move from investigation to action.
- Identifies patterns and root causes and sees improvements through from insight to measurable impact.
- Experience using Trust & Safety risk analytics or similar approaches is valuable.
- Collaborates with purpose and can influence senior stakeholders across disciplines such as Legal, Policy, Product, Engineering, and Communications.
- Communicates complex and sensitive issues clearly.
- Adapts approach as circumstances change.
- Curious about how AI can improve safety operations and team effectiveness.
- Can champion responsible AI adoption within their team.
- Identifies valuable AI use cases, tests what works, protects sensitive data and privacy, assesses outputs critically for accuracy and bias, and applies human judgment and accountability to final decisions.
