About the Role

The Mobility Coordinator (MC) provides housing and financial coaching to families with Housing Choice Vouchers within The Housing Council at Pathstone Mobility Program. This role involves guiding families through neighborhood selection, application processes, home searching, and neighborhood transitions. The MC also assists with program enrollment, hosts workshops, and collaborates with program staff to support families during their moves. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, human services experience, and the ability to learn and utilize a program database. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support participants with Housing Choice Vouchers and assist them in moving to an opportunity area.
  • Assess participants’ strengths and barriers to moving.
  • Refer participants to outside service agencies.
  • Help maintain participant motivation when faced with challenges.
  • Assist families in developing goals and assess their progress.
  • Provide ongoing support to participants during the housing search process.
  • Assist participants in contacting property owners.
  • Assist participants with rental applications.
  • Accompany participants to property tours on an individual basis.
  • Host group workshops developed by the program that support the housing search journey.
  • Perform post-move in-home check-ins and consequent follow-ups.
  • Work with other program staff to communicate with property owners and participants.
  • Assist in resolving concerns that may arise between property owners and participants.
  • Brainstorm with the team to identify possible solutions.
  • Track participant and property owner data using the designated program database.
  • Review regulations and interpret program information.
  • Produce information needed for reporting.
  • Ensure program compliance with the Housing Choice Voucher and Housing Counseling Programs.
  • Participate in interviews by the research partner and other research related activities as requested.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Social Services, Psychology or a similar field, and at least 1 year of relevant work experience; or 6 or more years of previous work experience in a similar field.
  • Direct practice experience is required.
  • Knowledge of the Housing Choice Voucher program is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Local, state, and/or federal safety net programs.
  • Knowledge of the greater Rochester rental housing market.
  • Understanding of the role systemic racism plays in shaping communities.
  • Familiarity with best practices and approaches to participant support such as motivational interviewing, person-centered, and strengths-based approach.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to provide ongoing support services to participants.
  • Ability to read credit reports and provide basic information on how to improve credit scores.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop rapport and trust among program participants.
  • Ability to use the internet to research and obtain information related to available rental housing.
  • Ability to navigate case management software packages.
  • Ability to assist clients and property owners in solving leasing and tenancy-related issues.
  • Ability to perform duties of the position with minimal direction.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Must have an automobile, driver’s license, and insurance.
